Position #00010426 - Assistant Professor
The Department of Sociology, Criminal Justice, and Social Work invites applications for a tenure track faculty position in Sociology at the Assistant Professor rank with a teaching and research focus in health/medicine to begin August 2018. Candidates should be prepared to teach courses in the Sociology of Medicine at the undergraduate and graduate level. The candidate will contribute to new programs in Health and Social Behavior and Medical Humanities at Georgia’s only public academic health center.
Augusta University is a student-centered comprehensive research university and academic health center with over 9000 students and 1200 faculty members committed to providing leadership and excellence in teaching, discovery, clinical care, and service. The Department of Sociology, Criminal Justice, and Social Work has over 400 majors in total with 15 full time and 6 part-time faculty members. We are located on the beautiful Summerville campus in a building that was newly remodeled in fall 2016.
The department seeks to hire a candidate with a PhD in Sociology or Demography. While the doctorate degree is preferred, ABD candidates making significant progress towards the terminal degree will be considered. We are particularly interested in those with specializations in social policy and health including (but not limited to) medical sociology, the social determinants of health, mental illness, and disabilities.
