The Department of Politics at the University of Virginia invites applications for a full-time position in Environmental Politics at the assistant professor (tenure-track) or associate professor (tenured) level. We welcome applications from candidates in any - or some mix - of the subfields of Comparative Politics, International Relations, and American Politics. We are especially interested in candidates who desire to work across both subfield and disciplinary boundaries.
This position, located in the Department of Politics, is part of a cross-disciplinary initiative focused on integrating social, political, cultural, and scientific approaches to address environmental challenges. The initiative includes a cluster hire of at least five faculty across the University of Virginia. The successful candidate will be involved with the University's new Environmental Resilience Institute.
We are especially interested in candidates who have an interest in, or demonstrated capacity for mentoring diverse students and colleagues.
Successful candidates must demonstrate, in written or published work, deep engagement with and significant contributions to an important area of environmental politics. Applicants at the assistant professor rank must be on track to receive a PhD in Political Science or a closely related discipline by May 2018 and must hold a PhD at the time of appointment. For appointments at the assistant rank, we prefer candidates with refereed publications or publishable working papers. Applicants at the associate professor rank must hold the PhD at the time of application and must demonstrate an outstanding publication and teaching record.
