Required Qualifications (Evidenced by attached resume):

PhD in Biochemistry, Neuroscience or related scientific field in hand by December 31, 2018. Background and experience in Biochemistry. Experience in mouse work.

Preferred Qualifications:

Background in neuroscience. Experience in Molecular Biology and cell culture, specifically primary culture of neurons and astrocytes. Knowledge in anatomy of the mouse brain and dissection. RNA-seq analysis.

Brief Description of Duties:
The Postdoctoral Associate will be involved in research designed to analyze the molecular mechanisms underlying the neuro-developmental disorder Rett syndrome. The incumbent will ensure that all experiments are appropriately conducted following the policies and procedures of Stony Brook University. The candidate will collect and analyze data, including periodical/literature search and utilizing specialized skills in related field, participate and assist in manuscript writing for publication in scientific journals and/or presentations, may also assist in grant writing, attend scientific conferences and meetings, take part in lab maintenance, including equipment maintenance, and ordering of supplies as needed. The successful incumbent will be responsible for the following:

  • Within the predetermined research scope and methodology, conduct research experiments analyzing the molecular mechanisms underlying Rett syndrome using Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, and cell culture techniques using Rett syndrome mouse models.
  • Collect and analyze data, including periodical literature searches.
  • Participate and assist in manuscript writing, presentation of research and possible assistance with grant writing.
  • Lab maintenance including equipment maintenance, and ordering of supplies as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned, which may include attending scientific conferences and meetings.
Special Notes:The Research Foundation of SUNY is a private educational corporation. Employment is subject to the Research Foundation policies and procedures, sponsor guidelines and the availability of funding. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption.
