Assistant Professor of Special Education, Tenure Track.  Otterbein University, a comprehensive liberal arts institution in the suburban Columbus area, invites immediate applications for an Assistant Professor of Special Education, with the appointment beginning in August 2018.  This is a tenure-track position with commensurate expectations for teaching, scholarship and service.

Responsibilities: Responsibilities include teaching graduate courses during the daytime and evening hours, such as methods of special education, assessment in special education, and specialized instructional planning; supporting the process of yearly evaluation of program data; leading part-time instructors in program reviews and improvements; and co-writing reports for the Council of Exceptional Children and state program reviews.  A significant part of our special education programs are the field placements and required hours of observation and teaching in K-12 settings. An additional responsibility is building and maintaining relationships with schools to promote collaboration to benefit schools and the department. Faculty members at Otterbein University are expected to be involved in professional activities for the purposes of building and maintaining one’s scholarship, such as research, writing, and presenting, self-development, and service.

Qualifications: The successful candidate will teach primarily in the graduate programs, engage in scholarly activities, have knowledge of and experience with the Council of Exceptional Children standards for teacher preparation, and provide service to the department, university, community and profession.  Candidates will also be expected to maintain relationships with area schools to support field placements and to supervise field placements for teacher candidates. The ideal candidate will possess a terminal degree in Special Education (or related field) by the 2018-2019 academic year, and at least three years of K-12 teaching experience. Candidates should also have strong skills in leadership and communication, and an ability to work effectively with students, faculty, and staff from diverse communities and cultures. Teaching experience in graduate programs, demonstrated record of scholarship, experience in curriculum development and evaluation, and experience in online and/or blended education preferred
