RESEARCH SPECIALIST A
Duties: Research Specialist will aid a Professor in the Department of Chemistry in the performance of experiments and preparation of research grants in an Organic Chemistry and Chemical Biology laboratory aimed at developing new chemical tools for studying biological problems.
The position will involve multi-step small molecule synthesis on multi-gram to milligram scale, design and synthesis of linear and cyclic peptides.
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and 0 to 1 year of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
Master's degree, related experience and a strong multidisciplinary background are preferred.
Experience with characterization of biopolymers, hydrogels, peptide nucleic acids, nanoparticles, and drug conjugates is a plus. Expertise in using 1H, 13C, 31P, TOCSY, 1H-13C HSQC, and DOSY NMR to identify organic compounds, peptide structure, and biopolymers is essential. Proficient use of MS, IR, HPLC, SEC, Circular Dichroism, Western Blots, Gel Electrophoresis, PCR, and RT-PCR is required.
Strong communication and organizational skills as well as basic computer skills are required.
