The Senior Director for Student Services and Enrollment Management in Bouve College provides executive level leadership, vision, direction, advocacy, and supervision for a comprehensive array of undergraduate student services, including but not limited to the administrative management of effective academic advising to supporting students' success, and programming that contributes and results in students' satisfaction. S/he will administer enrollment management to achieve or exceed NU/Bouve retention and graduation goals. The Senior Director is responsible for planning, developing, organizing supervising and evaluating all segments of student services programs. Reporting directly to the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Education of the College, and in coordination with the leadership in the School of Nursing, School of Pharmacy and School of Health Professions, the Senior Director, has direct responsibility for supervising, organizing and facilitating the daily operations of the Student Services team in a fast paced and complex environment that interfaces with all offices on campus.
This position requires an individual who can work independently, creatively and manage a complex work group. Job responsibilities include developing innovative, effective, and efficient systems that support the scope of responsibilities of Student Services. The Senior Director will assess the College's retention programs for effectiveness and will generate reports and data on enrollment and retention in order to provide information for continued and future direction for the college in collaboration with Enrollment Management & Student Affairs-Bouve-University. S/he will work closely with the Associate Dean of Undergraduate Education, Chairs of Departments and School Deans to develop/refine strategic plan and long-term plans; lead and/or support efforts to drive desired operational changes and performance improvements. Set benchmarks and goals for student retention, graduation and student success and support programs; ensure that academic progression policies are implemented in accordance with faculty's academic and NU standards and policies. The Senior Director works closely with NU Admissions to meet the NU goal of recruiting and yielding a high talented incoming class. In collaboration with NU Admissions, activities include: recruiting prospective first-year students across several points of entry during the academic year; monitoring and assessing the success of recruiting activities; maintaining active communication with prospective students and their families; and developing initiatives related to recruitment strategies to meet targeted enrollment goals of the college, such as open houses, Welcome Day for Accepted Students, NU Scholars process, internal transfer students from pre-interview planning phase, through application; orientation of new students.
The Senior Director provides leadership of the First-Year Students initiative and to the first- year seminar programs, including but not limited to the academic advising of first-year students, internal transfer students, external transfer students, NUin students, and NU Scholars students. Responsible for the management of all first-year seminar sessions across majors, retention initiatives, living and learning communities, tutoring, peer-mentoring and community building events.
S/he is responsible for the fiscal management of the Student Services Office. Assists with achieving goals set by Dean/faculty and University. The position involves the development and oversight of the operating budget for the office in addition to the budget for related grants and first-year experience programs and services. S/he oversees hiring, training and supervision, and sets priorities for the office, student programs and professional academic advising staff and the office manager. Recruits, retains, develops, and provides managerial and administrative oversight of all staff within the Student Services operations areas of responsibility. Creates a working environment that supports the ongoing professional growth and development of all staff, high morale, and optimal job satisfaction. Facilitates conflict resolution and addresses issues that may emerge. Provides leadership in the implementation of regular staff meetings, in-service training and promoting and providing resources for professional development. Develops, implements, and monitors compliance with policies and procedures mandated by Bouve College of Health Sciences and NU. Serves as administrative liaison with NU Admissions, Retention Committee, and other College and NU committees. Leads or participates in special projects as requested by the Associate Dean or Dean of the College. Meets all deadlines for deliverables as requested by Associate Dean or College Dean.
Master’s degree is required in a professional health career, higher education or related field. Candidate should have 6 to 8 years of experience in management level position in higher education institution; excellent management, organizational interpersonal and communication skills; ability to lead and motivate professional academic advisors to develop creative student support programs, ability to evaluate and assess program effectiveness.
Candidate must be current in the literature in retention and student development. Candidate must have knowledge of the trends of the demographics as well as be knowledgeable about the use of technology to enhance advising and efficiency in the management of the office. S/he must have the ability to manage multiple, concurrent and conflicting projects and activities, to think strategically and to be able to create and build teams. Demonstrate continued professional growth, development, and commitment to working with a diverse population of faculty, students and staff. Must have exceptional customer service and negotiating skills. Candidate must have experience with advising of first-year students, demonstration of effective program development, recruitment and retention initiatives in enrollment management and student academic progress and success. The position requires commitment, vision, creativity, leadership, and a broad range of decision-making abilities.
