As a member of the Stanford Law School External Relations team, the Assistant Director of Alumni Relations reports to the Director of Alumni Relations and works with alumni volunteers, faculty, students, the Alumni Association, the Office of Development, and other University colleagues to develop, implement, and evaluate activities, programs, services, and communications that reach, serve, and engage Stanford Law School alumni. He/she plans and/or manages alumni programs and events, educational opportunities, and/or other alumni initiatives. The Assistant Director manages programming and logistics for events hosted by External Relations, including but not limited to regional law chapters, Board of Visitors, Alumni Weekend, and the law school's 125th Anniversary celebration.CORE DUTIES Work with Director, Associate Director, and Major Gift Officers to create innovative regional programming, and implement programs in regional law chapters.
Plan large scale and/or high-level alumni programs and events, including the annual Board of Visitors meeting, Alumni Weekend, the yearlong 125th Anniversary celebration, and other on-campus events.
Partner with Reunion team to manage class events for Alumni Weekend.
Recruit, train, oversee, and steward volunteers in 6-8 regional law chapters, and other alumni communities as assigned, partnering with them to plan events and programs in these regions.
Develop contacts and maintain relationships with alumni, faculty, students, staff, and vendors.
Collaborate and coordinate with other departments and schools to achieve the goals of alumni programs or projects.
Work with other departments to identify and implement new markets and develop program strategies. This could include managing events in regions without an established alumni chapter, or planning events for affinity populations.
Negotiate contracts with vendors and oversee the quality of delivered products and services.
Participate in budgeting, forecasting, and cost negotiations for alumni events and programs.
Evaluate alumni programs and services for customer satisfaction.
Staff all major External Relations programs and regional events as needed.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Bachelor's degree and three years of relevant experience or combination of education and relevant experience.
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and the ability to represent the university professionally both internally and externally.
Demonstrated experience with event planning, volunteer development and oversight.
Strong interpersonal, team, and leadership skills; tact and flexibility in working with diverse population groups.
Able to manage multiple projects at once; calm, organized and cheerful with a positive and energetic attitude.
Demonstrated ability to bring high energy, excitement, and strong execution skills to a project.
Sound judgment, the ability to analyze problems quickly and accurately, and the ability to develop practical and effective solutions to solve a variety of problems.
Computer proficiency and the ability to learn new systems.
CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED
Valid California Non-commercial Class Driver's License.
Constantly perform desk-based tasks.
Frequently stand/walk, sit.
Occasionally grasp forcefully, use a telephone, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 40 pounds.
Rarely writing by hand, sort/file paperwork or parts.
Ability to obtain and maintain a California Non-commercial Class license.
