The Institutional Services Assistant is responsible for general cleaning of areas in and around office buildings, class rooms, lecture halls, conference rooms, auditoriums, resident halls, dining areas, building common areas, and other areas as required. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Act as group leader to lower-level custodial workers.
Clean walls, windows, and windowsills, and shampoo carpets as needed.
Strip floors of old wax, re-wax and buff as needed.
Clean areas requiring special cleaning methods, by use of specific cleansers, sterilized equipment, and/or disposing of contaminated wastes.
Maintain cleaning equipment and makes minor repairs, and notify supervisor of maintenance and repairs needed.
Ensure building security by watching for vandalism and patron safety.
Assist in room and audio visual set-ups.
Perform minor repairs on building equipment and furnishings as needed, as well as other related responsibilities as required or assigned.
Knowledge of basic cleaning techniques and cleaning equipment operation and maintenance.
Ability to follow instructions and perform repetitive manual work, use cleansers and other agents to clean floors and furniture, use housekeeping cleaning supplies and equipment, work independently without close supervision, follow oral and/or written instructions, perform multiple tasks and to prioritize assignments, and perform repetitive manual work.
Candidate must be able to lift 50 lbs.
3:00 p.m.-12:00 a.m.
The formal education equivalent of a High School Diploma.
Other job related Education and/or Experience may be substituted for all or part of these basic requirements, except for certification or licensure requirements, upon approval or the qualifications review committee.
