Open Rank Faculty Position in Statistics and Data Science
The Department of Statistics at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign invites applications for a tenured or tenure-track faculty position in Statistics and Data Science (100% for 9 months). Areas of emphasis include statistical methods and computation methods for big data, computational statistics, biological and health sciences, statistical machine learning, causal inference, graphical models and sampling and design for large-scale studies, but all areas of Statistics and Data Science are welcome.
Applicants must have a PhD in Statistics, Biostatistics, Data Science, Computer Science, Engineering or related fields at time of appointment. Applicants at the assistant professor level must show potential to publish in the top disciplinary journals and/or high-impact publications in applied areas, and demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching. Candidates with superior qualifications who will complete all the Ph.D. requirements within the first appointment year may be appointed at the rank of Lecturer. After the Ph.D. requirement is met, the appointment will be changed to Assistant Professor.
Applicants at the associate/full professor level must have an outstanding research record and excellence in teaching appropriate for appointment with tenure.
Successful candidates are expected to teach effectively at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, establish and maintain an active and independent research program, and provide service to the department, the university and the profession. The anticipated starting date is August 16, 2018. Salary is competitive.
The Department of Statistics is a vibrant, growing department with over 400 undergraduate majors, over 150 graduate students, and a rich history of research in statistical theory and methods as well as interdisciplinary applications.
