Director for Graduate Success




The School of Law at CU Boulder is now accepting applications for a Director for Graduate Success. This role works closely with the Career Development Office to provide direct support to recent graduates and more experienced alumni. This Director will also counsel current students who are specifically interested in pursuing careers in International law.

What your key responsibilities will be:

This position will enhance the long-term success of students and alumni through the following duties:

Alumni Advising
  • Advise new graduates on career opportunities and communicate to them all pertinent information regarding the bar exam and application process, licensure, entry-level job postings and professional/networking opportunities.
  • Counsel more experienced alumni on job search strategies, career direction and networking.
  • Manage and maintain counseling notes and participate in Career Development strategy meetings.

Administrative Duties
  • Assist the Assistant Dean of Career Development with compiling graduate employment data and statistics for all annual reporting responsibilities.
  • Supervise bar application programming, including the coordination of the Board of Bar Examiners info sessions, character and fitness sessions, and COLAP on campus visits.

Student Advising
  • Counsel current students on career paths and job opportunities in International law.
  • Manage and maintain counseling notes and participate in Career Development strategy meetings.

Mentor Program
  • Manage and further develop the recent graduate mentoring and alumni/student mentoring programs.

The anticipated starting salary for this position is $53,000 - 56,000/annually, commensurate with experience..

Qualifications


What we require:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
  • At least three years of professional experience.
  • Coaching or counseling experience.

What you will need:
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and management skills.
  • Excellent problem solving skills.
  • Flexible and open to change and new ideas.
  • The ability to be enthusiastic about working with student and alumni populations.
  • Experience working with diverse populations and constituencies.
  • Computer skills (familiarity with and knowledge of ways to leverage technology to be as efficient and effective as possible).
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Understanding of the critical importance of confidentiality.
  • Knowledge of effective job search strategies for students and alumni in the current job market, inventories/assessments and competencies.
  • The ability to be creative and energetic while understanding how to motivate and counsel students and alumni on job search strategies.

What we'd like you to have:
  • JD or Master's degree.
  • Experience practicing law.
  • Experience coaching/counseling/mentoring lawyers or law students.
  • Programming experience.
  • Familiarity with and knowledge of web-based legal career research systems and social media.

Preferred qualifications may be used to further reduce the pool of applicants to those who are most highly qualified.
