The Department of Sociology faculty and students are engaged in fascinating studies of the social inequalities that define our times, as seen in relationships, health outcomes, educational and professional careers, and interactions. We are also committed to sharing sociology with non-academic audiences, because our discipline provides unique insights that can improve policy responses and inform collective action. We are currently composed of 20 faculty, four staff and around 50 graduate students and 380 undergraduate majors.
The Sociology Program Associate is the primary member of the staff responsible for:
Provides academic advising to junior and senior sociology undergraduates.
Assists the academic specialist when needed, enters the course schedule into the system.
Purchasing and Travel representative for sociology and will be responsible for the department's purchasing card (P-Card) and travel card (T-Card). Prepares P-Card and T-Card reconciliations.
Departmental key manager and security representative.
Maintains all departmental listservs.
Assists with academic reporting requirements and faculty recruitment tracking.
Provides additional administrative support as required.
A high school diploma and four years of experience related to the duties of this position.
(Note: or a combination of post high school education and experience equal to four years.) Ability to demonstrate effective customer service skills.
Ability to interpret, academic program requirements and provide advice.
Experience prioritizing and organizing multiple work assignments and working with deadlines.
Experience working accurately in a detail oriented environment.
Experience with office practices, procedures and etiquette.
Experience in an academic setting.
This is an USPS (University Support Personnel System) position.
If not otherwise specified, schedule is M-F, 8-5.
