Job Title Assistant Director, Athletics Communications
The Assistant Director, Athletics Communications assists with the intercollegiate athletics communications operations and serves as media contact for women's basketball and other assigned sports. Writes press releases, game notes, and stories for publication. Updates social media content and maintains the athletic department website. Coordinates media coverage for athletic events and maintains team and individual statistics.
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Sports Information, Communication, Journalism or closely related field.
Two years of athletics communication experience.
Experience with publication editing and design; and using social media.
Master's degree from an accredited institution in Sports Information, Communication, Journalism or closely related field.
Division I intercollegiate athletics communications experience.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Working knowledge of intercollegiate athletics and NCAA rules and compliance as it pertains to media and publicity at the Division I level.
Knowledge and ability to make publication editing and design.
Knowledge or ability to use Photoshop, InDesign, and StatCrew software.
Knowledge of applicable basic computer functions Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
Demonstrated knowledge and experience using social media.
Passionate and knowledgeable of rules, statistics, and industry trends for each sport.
Excellent writing and oral communication skills to develop presentations, stories, and press releases for media.
Strong computer skills and proficiency with word-processing, database software, web site design and maintenance; and familiarity with statistics software.
Understanding of the importance of working with the local, regional, and national media.
Ability to adapt, learn quickly, be resourceful, and to meet short deadlines.
Analytical expertise in assessing social media trends.
Salary Range $35,000 - $37,000
Essential Job Duties
•Assists with the intercollegiate athletics communications operations. Works collaboratively with the Director, Athletics Communications with the creation, development, and implementation of communication materials that help maximize fan awareness, attendance, and game atmosphere while increasing revenue for the athletics programs.
•Serves as media contact for women's basketball and other assigned sports. Maintains positive relationships with the public, the press, and electronic media.
•Maintains the athletic department website, writes press releases, game notes, and stories for publication. Ensures that data is accurate, relevant, and posted in a timely manner.
•Updates social media content for assigned sports to promote FGCU athletics.
•Develops and oversees the delivery of publications, press and media communications, special promotions, and general information on related activities and events. Monitors all outgoing materials for brand consistency.
•Maintains team and individual statistics and coordinates media coverage for athletic events.
•Assists with the preparation and implementation of traditional and digital marketing efforts.
•Promotes honors for outstanding athletes, coaches, and administrators.
•Supervises department intern staff.
•Responsible for proper handling of university funds as it pertains to ethical and budget issues.
•Complies with all University, ASUN Conference, and Coastal Collegiate Sports Association (CCSA) regulations, as applicable, as well as all NCAA rules and regulations. Remains current with all changes in NCAA, as well as changes to University, ASUN and CCSA rules and regulations regarding intercollegiate athletics. This includes the requirement for self-reporting any possible rule violations. Any violation of NCAA rules is prohibited and may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment.
