Job Description Summary:

The School of Medicine and Health Sciences at George Washington University is currently seeking an Associate Director for the Medical School Admissions department. The Associate Director of Medical School Admissions is a critical member of the management team alongside the Associate Dean and Director within the high-volume, highly competitive environment of medical school admissions. Nearly 12,000 completed applications are reviewed each admissions cycle for entering classes of fewer than 200. All applicant materials are evaluated holistically (grades, scores, letters of recommendation, etc.) and the Associate Director is a critical member of joint oversight of the evaluating team.

The Associate Director helps staff handle applicant inquiries and takes primary problem-solving responsibility with more complex issues. The Associate Director is also responsible for event and recruitment planning and execution, as well as high-level, detail-oriented interfacing with other units on campus. The Associate Director provides assistance the Dean and Director in the overall management of the office. The role has primary responsibility for various high-stakes areas such as the design and production of effective recruitment materials and assistance in training application reviewers as well as skill in other functions that interface with both internal and external constituents.

Responsibilities Include:
• Assists the Dean and Director in training application reviewers to ensure University and Medical School guidelines are followed and maintained
• Supervises and trains admission counselor, interview coordinator and seasonal student employees.
• Assists the Dean and Director in implementing the strategic plan for admitting/enrolling a diverse entering class
• Monitors the changes in the entering class during the final phase before matriculation
• Serves as the primary point of contact for accepted students
• Reviews, compiles, and marshals data relevant to the admissions enterprise at the request of the Dean and Director
• Creates and delivers presentations and reports pertinent to answering fundamental questions to the applicant pool and process.
• Assist the Dean and Director in the development of content, design, production, and distribution of recruitment materials to prospective applicants.
• Serves as a liaison with university offices associated with publications;
• Manages the content pertinent to MD Admissions on the website.
• Plans and executes special projects related to recruitment and publications such as written materials, public events and online engagement.
• Executes the utilization of prospect databases / CRMs such as Target X.
• Assists the Director with the administration and management of the office in areas such as payroll and leave monitoring
• Participates in recruitment activities
• Represents the admissions office in professional meetings and recruitment venues
• Coordinates in-house trainings and professional opportunities for the admissions team to learn about opportunities and trends in the field of medical school admissions.
• Recommends policy and procedure changes to increase the quality of the applicant pool and overall functioning of the office.
• Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

Minimum Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 5 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Master's degree or higher in a relevant area of study plus 3 years of relevant professional experience. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Additional Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications: Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in public speaking, writing, and project-management preferred.
Experience in medical school admissions preferred.
Working knowledge of computer database systems.
