Excelsior College, a regionally accredited, virtual, private, nonprofit institution of higher learning is seeking dynamic applicants for the position of a Disability Services Counselor, within the Student Success Center. This is a part time 50% position ( 18.75 hours per week)


Excelsior College is seeking a part time ( 18.75 hours per week) Disability Services Counselor in the Student Success Center to assist with the coordination of services for students with disabilities. Reporting to the Disability Services Counselor, the Disability Services Counselor assists students by providing appropriate resources to first time as well as continuing recipients of services. This position will also assist with departmental efforts to provide education/training on disability inclusion and accessibility to the Excelsior community.

This is a part-time position, located in Albany, NY 12203.


  • Provide information, direction, and support services for students with learning, cognitive, mental health or physical disabilities..
  • Conduct initial telephone intake interviews; collect, review and evaluate documentation submitted; determine eligibility for requested accommodations.
  • Review and interpret confidential psycho-educational assessments and other documents to determine eligibility for accommodations and specific services; assist students in acquiring additional documentation and/or clarification of submitted documentation.
  • Maintain student ADA files in the Student Information System.
  • Explain processes and disseminate transition resources for newly admitted students with disabilities
  • Provide oversight of the electronic textbook process, working with students, publishers, Access Text Network, and the individual schools to obtain digital copies of required textbooks when they are not available through the bookstore.
  • Assist Disability Services and other College units in attaining unit, Divisional, and College goals and objectives.
  • Other duties as assigned.


  • Bachelor's degree (Master's preferred) in a related field and two years of related experience.
  • Direct experience working in student services. (Preferred: experience working with students with disabilities in a higher education setting; knowledge of government regulations that pertain to students including FERPA and ADA/Section 504 and related standards; experience in evaluating confidential documentation of disability and determining eligibility for services and accommodations)
  • Sound decision-making and problem-solving abilities; ability to work strategically to manage competing demands
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to the concerns and needs of a diverse student population
  • Knowledge and familiarity with various assistive and adaptive technologies.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
