Duties: The Herbert D. Katz Center for Advanced Judaic Studies at the University of Pennsylvania is devoted to post-doctoral research on Jewish civilization in all its historical and cultural manifestations, and is a model for institutions of its kind. The Katz Center's distinguished scholars and superb library holdings, along with Penn's outstanding faculty in Judaic studies, have established the University of Pennsylvania as one of the world's major centers for the study of Jewish civilization.

The Assistant to the Director will manage and coordinate activities for the Director in planning and executing entire CAJS academic program/scheduling, including annual conference; handle all logistical details. Investigate and arrange living accommodations for incoming fellows; handle a myriad of details regarding fellows' relocation to Philadelphia. Administer and monitor fellowship application process; respond to inquiries from potential fellowship candidates regarding all aspects of the program. Handle sensitive/confidential correspondence for the director; Communicate and liaise with the Center's Board of Overseers; communicate and correspond with donors. Notify and continue communications with fellowship award winners; serve as liaison between accepted fellows and the Director. Compose and place fellowship announcements in appropriate academic journals and other venues; instruct Selection committee about their roles in selection process and arrange selection committee meetings. Provide high level support to the Director in planning and implementing bi-annual Board of Overseers meetings. Work closely with fellows on academic programs and public lectures/events.

Qualifications: A Bachelor's Degree is required and a minimum of 2-3 years experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated; able to balance multiple tasks simultaneously, attention to detail; comfortable working with multiple constituents: academics, board of overseers, students, and public. Must have superior communication and people skills.
