RESEARCH SPECIALIST A
Duties: This is a full-time position as a project coordinator working for a professor in the Department of Linguistics and assuming primary responsibility for the day-to-day operation of an active, collaborative research laboratory studying language and pattern learning in adults, infants, and young children. Duties include participating in the design of experiments; preparing audio and video stimuli for new experiments; contacting undergraduate subjects and day care centers to find adults, children, and families willing to participant in the research; scheduling the adult and child subjects; running subjects in experiments in the lab and on-site at day care centers; analyzing data from these experiments; writing up detailed summaries of the design and results of each study for our records; and performing other research tasks in the lab. The lab will include students and part-time research staff who will need to be supervised, and multiple projects will be running simultaneously. The project coordinator will oversee the conduct of all these studies, reporting to and working with the faculty member on planning, execution, and completion of the studies, and will be directly responsible for supervising the other researchers and for contacting each of the child care facilities in which we will conduct our studies to make these projects and sites all function smoothly.
Qualifications: A Bachelor's Degree and 0 to 1 years of experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience, is required. 2 to 3 years of experience are strongly preferred. Extensive background in cognitive science, 2-5 years experience working in a research lab in cognitive or language sciences preferred; knowledge and use of experimental design and statistics; experience and strong skills in interacting with infants and children, their parents, and daycare centers.
