The University of Virginia Department of Student Health invites qualified applicants for a staff physician position in our busy General Medicine clinic with an anticipated start date of January, 2018. The clinician hired for this position will be expected to provide high quality, evidence-based primary health care to University of Virginia students. Excellent clinical and interpersonal skills are required.
Staff Physicians provide primary healthcare to University of Virginia students and comply with the Medical Staff Bylaws of the Department of Student Health. Students are seen for a variety of health issues including acute and chronic conditions. General Medicine also offers preventive services, office-based procedures, and referral coordination for specialized care. Patients are seen on an appointment basis, with a complementary triage system for patients with urgent problems. Physicians share consulting responsibilities for nurse practitioners and physician assistants on staff.
Staff physicians provide supervision and instruction to trainees rotating in General Medicine. Trainees consist of residents, medical students, and nursing students. Staff physicians also participate in clinical and epidemiologic research studies at Student Health.
Candidates must have a medical doctorate (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathy (D.O.). Requirements also include 1) completed residency in Family Practice, Internal Medicine or Pediatrics before start date, 2) Board certified/board eligible in Family Practice, Internal Medicine or Pediatrics, 3) licensed or license eligible (before start date) in the Commonwealth of Virginia, and 4) DEA certification prior to start date is also required.
