Jobs in this career family involve development, marketing and management of messaging to both internal and external parties. Functions include marketing; advertising; communications; publications; brand management; writing; editing; proofreading; graphic design; web information architecture, development and design; web content development; electronic communications; social media; news media/relations; public relations; photography; videography; radio/television broadcasting; FCC compliance; and communication projects management.

Program Directors are responsible for the ongoing leadership and oversight of a program or function, including the development of strategies and processes which contribute to the University and/or campus mission and accountability for services provided. These positions typically do not supervise others.

Position Emphasis:

The Director of Marketing & Communications is primarily responsible for generating, developing and implementing strategic branding, marketing, promotion and publicity via a variety of output formats (i.e. web, social media, print, radio, and broadcast) for the College of Arts & Media (CAM) and its departments. Additionally, this position is also responsible for leading the reputational advancement and philanthropic activities of the CAM. This position requires extensive media and public relations experience, excellent writing and editing skills and expertise with online and social media.

This position conveys relevant information to inspire a wide range of audiences and therefore requires applicants to have the ability to take a metrics-driven and research-based approach to planning, branding, marketing, and communications as well as the ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of constituents.

PLEASE NOTE: Candidates will be responsible for travel expenses related to the interview process and any relocation expenses, if applicable.

Salary and Benefits:

The salary range for this position has been established at $65,000 to $71,000 and is commensurate with skills and experience.

This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, journalism, public relations, business administration or a closely related field.
  • The position requires extensive, diverse and progressively responsible experience at the management level including experience in creating and standardizing metrics and analytics to assist in measuring the costs and impact of key branding, marketing and/or communications strategies.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Five or more years of experience in a progressively responsible branding, marketing and/or communications role.
  • Five or more years of related experience in building marketing, demand generation, and demand conversion efforts that consistently deliver intended and needed results.
  • Three or more years working as a design professional in the areas of web development, print assets and/or social media marketing
  • Successful project management experience.
  • Previous supervisory experience.
  • A relevant professional certification or an advanced degree in marketing, communications, journalism, public relations, business administration or a closely related field.

  • Familiarity with and capacity to employ Sitefinity.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.
  • Outstanding customer service skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment and leadership ability to advance diversity and inclusion
  • Professional expertise to innovate, initiate and complete effective and research-based communication, marketing and branding strategies.
  • Fiduciary capacity to develop a budget and use resources accordingly.
  • Ability to write, edit, proofread, publish, and produce print and web content and communications materials.
  • Ability to maintain a climate that is collegial, that respects and values diversity that treats faculty, staff, and learners fairly and that is hospitable to creativity and innovation.
  • Knowledge of cross-browser/cross-platform compatibility issues, and information architecture and usability principles with the complimentary skills in drawing on an Array of analytic tools.
