Description:
The HR Business Partner (HRBP) position is responsible for leading, implementing and delivering HR initiatives.
The HRBP will act as a change agent. This role works collaboratively with leaders to prioritize strategic people priorities and integrated solutions that accelerate the achievement of objectives. The position builds partnerships across the Emerson campus to deliver value-added service to a variety of departments by helping them meet the business objectives through employee relations, staff development and engagement. The position includes working with both unionized and non-union staff.

Campus Location: Boston Campus

Required Knowledge:
Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent work experience) in Human Resources management or related area. Minimum of 10 to 15 years’ experience resolving complex employee relations issues. Minimum 3 years’ supervisory experience.
Working knowledge of multiple human resource disciplines, including compensation practices, benefits, organizational diagnosis, employee and union relations, diversity, performance management, and federal and state respective employment laws.

Preferred/Desirable Knowledge:
Experience working with various union organizations.

Job Duties:
  • Meet weekly with department leaders to collaborate in efforts to improve leadership capabilities, workforce performance, retention, recognition and overall engagement. Counsel staff and faculty members in positive employee relations practices while proactively providing guidance and counseling in the area of employee relations, investigating and resolving ER issues and situations according to policy and in compliance with statute and regulations, and coordinating efforts with the legal department.
  • Design and implement a performance evaluation program which is aligned to the advancement of Emerson’s goals and objectives. Design and implement a full performance management curriculum supporting all aspects of the process and feedback loop. Review all completed appraisals and partner with managers on creation and execution of all performance improvement plans. Work with staff and management to provide coaching and guidance in the creation of individual development plans, performance improvement plans, coaching conversations and succession plans.
  • Work with union groups to keep agreements update and represent HR at CBA negotiations.
  • Serves as intake counselor for leaves and accommodation conversations with assigned divisions. Maintains an in-depth knowledge of legal requirements related to day to day management of employees, reducing legal risks and ensuring regulatory compliance. Maintains consistent documentation and files regarding employee conversations.
