Academic Advisor-Latino Specialist

Position Category: Staff - Full-Time

Advises new, prospective, transfer, and continuing Latino, LGBTQI+ and Multicultural students to develop, pursue, and achieve their academic goals. This includes developmental, and career advising. Emphasis is placed on striving to meet Latino student's cultural/ethnic needs.

Required Qualifications:
Graduation from an accredited institution with a bachelor’s degree plus one year of experience related to Summary of Duties totaling five years.
Must be able to communicate verbally and in written format in Spanish.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of student development and the ability to assist students develop effective academic plans and career and life goals, in order to promote student retention and academic success.
Knowledge of recruiting and retention strategies for Multicultural students.
Knowledge of financial aid policies, procedures, and eligibility requirements.
Knowledge of student advising and techniques including content, curriculum, and graduation requirements and the ability to anticipate departmental and student needs.
Skills in the use of microcomputers, computer terminals, and academic and office software platforms (BANNER) as applied to management of student records, report preparation, and related activities.
Ability to creatively and independently problem-solve by prioritizing and multitasking while under pressure.
Ability to communicate orally and in written format in English and Spanish.
Ability to work in a team environment.
Ability to collaborate with various entities inside and outside of the department.

Preferred Qualifications:

Physical Requirements:
Must be able to sit continuously, see, hear, and talk on a regular basis. Fine hand manipulation for computer work.

Pay Range: $31,554 to $42,072
