Director: School of Teacher Education
Position Description. The San Diego State University School of Teacher Education (STE), housed in the #1-ranked College of Education in the California State Universities, offers award-winning programs at the undergraduate, teacher credential, and graduate levels. The excellence of our programs is built on our participation in and collaboration with our diverse school communities by promoting inquiry-based and culturally-responsive learning environments. STE seeks a dynamic and forward-looking director to sustain and build upon our regional and national reputation.
The director is expected to provide administrative oversight for curriculum and instruction for all programs; to coordinate and write reviews and evaluations of programs, courses, faculty, and staff; to manage the budget; to contribute to community outreach; to represent the STE on college, university, community, state, and national committees and councils; to participate in fundraising and professional development initiatives; and to engage with students, faculty, staff, and stakeholders in formal and informal settings. This position is for a 12-month full-time tenure-track/tenured faculty member at the associate or full professor level (75% as Director).

● Earned doctorate in education or closely related field;
● Qualified at the Associate Professor or Full Professor Rank;

● Good communicator with effective interpersonal skills.
● Experience with teacher education accrediting agencies and processes;
● Demonstrated ability in developing and sustaining working relationships with faculty, staff and community partnerships;
● Experience with developing programs, research and service opportunities to enhance student learning;
● Willingness to be actively involved with local, state, regional, national, and international organizations concerned with teacher education;
● Experience managing budgets and personnel;
● Experience writing proposals and/or serving as a principal investigator for externally funded efforts in teacher education or related fields;
● K–12 or university teaching experience in urban settings;
● Demonstrated ability to meet the department, college, and university standards for tenure.
RANK AND SALARY
Appointment is for a 12–month associate professor or professor with salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.

SCHOOL OF TEACHER EDUCATION (STE)
Because SDSU began as a normal school, teacher education is central to the historic mission of the university. With nationally recognized research accomplishments and diverse expertise, the STE is academic home to 19 tenured/tenure-track faculty and more than 50 adjunct faculty and lecturers. STE offers programs at the undergraduate, teaching credential, and graduate levels. It serves undergraduate students through our liberal studies program. Our teacher credential programs prepare preservice teachers using a cohort model. Preservice teachers are able to earn either a multiple subjects (elementary) or single subject (secondary) teaching credential. At the graduate level, the STE offers specialized master's degrees and a COE-sponsored joint Ph.D. program in Education with Claremont Graduate University.
