Assistant Professor of Philosophy – Tenure Track
The Department of Philosophy of Gettysburg College announces a tenure-track position to be filled at the assistant professor level, effective August 2018.
AOS: Metaphysics or Ethics, broadly construed, embracing traditions, areas, and figures not normally included in conventional “Western” philosophy.
AOC: Areas beyond the department’s current strengths, and competence to contribute courses for the department’s “texts in context” requirement, which studies historically significant texts in their intellectual, social, and biographical contexts.
Successful candidates will be expected to teach a 3-2 course load, including a variety of introductory and advanced courses and contribute to our first-year seminar program; establish a productive record of research and scholarship; mentor senior theses and advise major and undecided students; contribute to the diversity of the curriculum; and participate in and contribute to a vibrant departmental culture.
The Ph.D. degree is preferred at time of appointment, along with evidence of teaching excellence and promising research. We especially welcome candidates who seek a rigorous liberal arts environment, will enhance the diversity of the department, and will build bridges to other College departments and programs.
