Director of Sponsored Research
This position is responsible for overseeing all sponsored-research functions for the Keck Science Department and will work with faculty to assist in the preparation of grant proposals. The Director will also lead the internal departmental data collection efforts. The Dean of Keck Science and the Director will work closely with the Office of Sponsored Research and the Office of the Treasurer at Claremont McKenna College to ensure active coordination of effort and compliance with CMC financial regulations. The Director will work with the faculty Director of the 3-2 Engineering, Economics-Engineering, and Management-Engineering Programs and will assist with recruitment, pre-registration, advising, and student assessment.
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Reporting to the Dean of Keck Science Department, the Director of Sponsored Research and Research Programming and Assistant to the Faculty Director of Engineering Majors works independently/collaboratively to perform the following essential duties and responsibilities:
- Oversee all sponsored-research functions for the Department and will communicate directly with Keck Science faculty about their on-going research interests in order to identify and maintain current and up to date information regarding government grant opportunities. The Director will bring such information to the attention of Keck Science faculty on a regular basis.
- Assist Keck Science faculty in the preparation of grants including providing editorial assistance, budgetary preparation assistance, and proposal routing assistance for government and non-government grant proposals.
- Maintain close coordination with the CMC Sponsored Research Office to ensure the full and timely exchange of information occurs prior to submission of grants.
- Work with the Foundation and Corporate Relations (F&CR) officers of the three Colleges in order to serve as a resource for faculty seeking non-governmental grants funding for research and other projects and serve as a conduit for such grant seeking activity between the Keck Science faculty and F&CR officers.
- Coordinate with the CMC Treasurer’s Office to ensure appropriate financial, budgetary and compliance provisions are met in all grants prior to submission.
- Be responsible for overseeing Keck Science compliance issues for government grant purposes and for directing the Department’s Responsible Conduct of Research training program.
- Coordinate with the Pendleton Business Office to ensure appropriate post grant responsibilities are met in a timely fashion.
- Cooperate with the Advancement Offices at the three Keck Science Colleges to ensure coordinated fundraising efforts advance the purposes of the Keck Science Department and the Colleges.
- Work with the faculty Director of the 3-2 Engineering, Economics-Engineering, and Management-Engineering Programs and assist with recruitment, pre-registration, advising, and student assessment.
- Track current students and graduates as appropriate in order to create and maintain database about the accomplishments of Keck Science students.
- Maintain cooperative relationships with the three Colleges alumni/ae offices in order to share information and data sources.
- Perform such other duties as may be assigned by the Dean of Keck Science.
Bachelor’s degree is required. Master’s degree in science or science-related discipline is preferred.
A minimum of 3 years of sponsored research and research programming experience with increasing responsibility is required.
A valid driver’s license or equivalent means of reliable transportation to off-site meetings an events is required.

- Operate computers proficiently with basic Microsoft Office software (such as Word, Excel, Outlook) and associated professional software. Use assigned technology, devices, and equipment to achieve annual goals and maintain confidentiality.

HOURS: The regular hours for this full time position are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday – Friday. Holiday, weekend and evening work hours will be required. Travel may be required. Regular hours may vary due to needs of the College or division. This is a 12 month position
