The Assistant Director of Athletics serves as a member of the Athletics Department senior management team, and is responsible for oversight and management of athletics facilities and operations.
Work involves a wide variety of situations as the incumbent performs complex duties and responsibilities in the University's athletic efforts. Requires strong interpersonal and communication skills in order to exchange information with others both inside and outside the University and may have a significant impact upon the University's reputation and operations.
The duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following functions, which are not listed in any particular order of important or significance:
Facilities Operations: coordinates and manages operations for all athletics facilities, including scheduling, maintenance, repair, custodial and security.
Facilities Scheduling: schedules all athletics facilities following all University and Department policies; coordinates facilities use for Department, University and off-campus groups.
Game/Event Management: oversees all athletics game/event management operations, including staffing, facilities set up and tear down, sports medicine needs, game administration, and the coordination of campus support resources.
Budget Management: develops and manages annual maintenance and work study budgets in accordance with Department guidelines.
Student Employment: coordinates all student employment (hiring, training, supervision, evaluation) for Athletics Department, including office staff and game/event management needs.
Camp and Clinic Operations: works with coaches, department staff, and the office of Housing and Conferences to assist with the operation of on-campus athletic camps and clinics.
Game Day Experience and Fan Engagement: develops and implements a strategic plan to provide outstanding customer service and increase attendance at events. Supervises the cheer team, dance team, University mascot program, and other related campus groups.
Represents the Athletics Department on appropriate campus committees and working groups.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Bachelor's degree is required.
Minimum of 3 years' experience working in higher education administration.
Knowledge of and ability to apply effective principles of facilities administration.
Strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Excellent organizational skills and the ability to set priorities and meet deadlines despite frequent interruptions. Ability to plan, organize, and implement special programs related to the University's programs and operations.
Strong proficiency in the use of computer for communications, data management, data reporting, and budget review and analysis. Ability to learn and adapt quickly to new software.
Ability to promote the core academic values of Willamette University and the role of athletics in its mission, including a rich understanding of student learning and success.
Ability to establish and maintain harmonious relations with other staff, faculty and students. Proven record of teamwork and collaboration.
Ability to effectively interact with a wide variety of people in a manner that positively portrays the University and its programs, personnel, and philosophies.
Must possess and maintain a current driver's license valid in the State of Oregon and a driving record insurable by the University's insurer.
This position is subject to a criminal conviction record check.
Master's degree in education, athletic and/or business administration, or an exercise science related field.
Experience working in athletic administration.

This is a full-time exempt position. This position is eligible for the University's generous benefits package
Pay is commensurate with experience, background, and education.
Work Environment: May require exposure to adverse environmental conditions such as noise, extreme temperatures, inclement weather, and other adversities as the incumbent performs duties and responsibilities in both an indoor and outdoor setting as well as occasional lifting up to 50 pounds. May require travel and willing to work weekends due to varied locations of athletic events.
