The Research Program Manager (RPM) reports to the Assistant Director of Research Initiatives (ADRI) of the Hoover Institution. Under the direction of the ADRI, the RPM is responsible for the organization, management, and execution of business and administrative support systems for research initiatives and programs within the Institution.
  • Independently implement, administer and evaluate day-to-day activities of the research programs and initiatives of the Hoover Institution, as directed by the ADRI (in coordination with the Office of the Director of the Hoover Institution). May act as key contact.
  • Coordinate, collect, organize, and analyze research project documentation data, create and update reports, review and explain trends; formulate and evaluate alternative solutions and/or present recommendations to the ADRI to achieve the goals of the program.
  • Analyze and interpret policies; develop, revise and implement procedures for program.
  • Represent the research initiatives and programs within the Hoover Institution. May also represent program to external constituencies.
  • May participate in development of budgets or oversee budgets and monitor and approve expenditures including interacting with officers of the Institution to organize, present, and clarify financial information that will include working with members of Hoover's finance team as well as various chairs of research initiatives.
  • May direct staff to perform various tasks and assignments. May also supervise staff.
  • Execute and manage all aspects of meetings, workshops, and conferences for the various scholarly teams. Will include working closely with the ADRI, special events coordinators and participating scholars and guest speakers, both in the U.S. and internationally.
  • Assist with the coordination of marketing and communications efforts in relation to the output and productivity of research initiatives and programs. Will include working closely with chairs of various research initiatives and with members of the Hoover Press and the Communications and Marketing teams.
* - Other duties may also be assigned. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education & Experience:
Bachelor's degree and three years of relevant experience, or combination of education and relevant experience. Five years of relevant experience in a professional setting strongly preferred.

  • Strong collaborative and relationship-building skills; ability to interact comfortably and work effectively with a variety of individuals to accomplish assigned tasks, including senior administrators, Hoover staff, donors, and university officials.
  • Keen attention to details; ability to produce high-quality work on deadline; ability to set time lines, map milestones, meet deadlines, and prioritize and manage multiple projects with competing priorities and deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both oral and written) with the ability to work effectively with staff, Hoover scholars, donors, and overseers. Knowledge of protocol using sound judgment and discretion when working with individuals from areas of academia, business, and government.
  • Experience with the preparation of reports and budgets through analysis and writing. Proficient in Internet web technologies and applications, including Microsoft Office Suite and Stanford's on-line systems (e.g. University's Oracle financial systems)
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of University's administrative policies, practices and compliance protocols as they relate to staff, scholars and visiting personnel.
Certifications and Licenses:
  • Constantly perform desk-based computer tasks.
  • Frequently stand/walk, sitting, grasp lightly/fine manipulation.
  • Occasionally use a telephone.
  • Rarely lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh 11-20 pounds.
