I. JOB OVERVIEW

Job Description Summary:

The Division of Development and Alumni Relations (DAR) is seeking an Executive Director, Annual Giving which reports to the Senior Associate Vice President of Development. DAR is responsible for leading the university's alumni and fundraising efforts. DAR seeks to promote a culture of philanthropy throughout the university community, including alumni, students, parents, faculty, staff, corporations and foundations, patients and other friends. Our goal is to advance the mission of GWU through excellence in education, research, scholarship, and patient care.

The Executive Director of Annual Giving oversees the strategy and execution of university-wide annual giving marketing campaigns and programming directed at alumni, parents, students, faculty, staff, and friends; while providing leadership to the Annual Giving team and directly managing its key development leaders. The Executive Director and the Annual Giving program emphasize growing undergraduate giving participation, leadership annual giving, and building a pipeline of donors to benefit all areas of the university.

Duties:

This position supervises a team of seven including the Associate Director for direct mail and email, the Director of Lead Annual Giving, and the Assistant Director for young alumni and student philanthropy. The Executive Director is responsible for developing strategy, executing campaigns and evaluating results of the direct mail and email campaign, managing annual gifts prospects and monitoring field work of the Annual Giving team, and supporting efforts in effectively and creatively engaging and soliciting gift prospects. This position also supervises the Colonial Connection calling center and supports the managing consultant's efforts in working with student workers to solicit alumni and friends effectively by phone. The Executive Director, Annual Giving also oversees the Luther Rice Society (GW's lead annual gift recognition society) and its Advisory Council, and supports the work through providing strategic direction and holding annual meetings.

The ideal candidate is expected to enhance their own professional knowledge and skills through networking nationally with institutions with similar programs, and maintaining an awareness of current best practices.

Performs other work related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

Minimum Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 8 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Master's degree or higher in a relevant area of study plus 6 years of relevant professional experience. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
