I. JOB OVERVIEW

Job Description Summary:

The Graduate School of Education and Human Development (GSEHD) community is dedicated to the mission of leading innovation through learning. Our students emerge from our programs enriched in theory and practice and become agents of change in education and human services. The master's program in rehabilitation counseling prepares highly knowledgeable students to become professional practitioners to assist persons who are physically, mentally, emotionally, or socially disabled to become empowered and to assume or resume their place in society.
The On-line Rehabilitation Counseling Program is looking for a Program Assistant. The primary focus for this position is to recruit and coordinate activities required to support on-line master's degree students in the Rehabilitation Counseling program. The individual interacts and meets with GWU faculty, staff, students, and external internship supervisors to support on-line students as they move through their academic program. The position reports to the Director of the On-Line Rehabilitation Counseling Program. This position does not have direct reports but may schedule, train and supervise temporary staff or student workers.
The key responsibilities include:
Recruit potential graduate students from across the country via electronic outreach (i.e. social media, listserves) and coordinate activities required to support on-line students in the Rehabilitation counseling program.
Support and manage one or more academic or administrative programs or initiatives at the university.
Coordinate and help schedule classes in coordination with GSEHD Scheduling Information Specialist as well as support program advisory council meetings twice a year and monthly counseling department meetings related to on-line program.
Assists in preparing quarterly and annual reports (financial and narrative) to funders (U.S. Department of Education) and GSEHD.
Support recruitment efforts through on-line outreach to potential students in collaboration with the GSEHD Office of Student Life.
Manage program finances including quarterly and annual reports to external funding sources and GSEHD.
Generate communications to applicants during the application process and to students to inform them of classes each semester as well as to communicate text books and other requirements. In addition, guide them through the graduation and Internship sites processes to help them with the necessary paperwork.
Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

Minimum Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will hold a high school diploma/GED plus 1.5 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant area of study. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Additional Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications: Preferred Qualifications:

MA in Counseling preferred but not required.
Experience preparing and monitoring budgets and processing invoices, and managing administrative duties.
Highly detailed with strong organizational skills, self-motivated, with a demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and work under pressure to meet deadlines.
Experience working in customer focused environment.
Experience working within higher education is preferred but not required.
Experience working with students, faculty and staff in providing customer service.
Strong writer and persuasive communicator with excellent interpersonal, customer service, and communication skills.
Excellent computer skills, including and mastery of Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
Enjoy working as part of a small, strong team as well as independently to achieve program goals and objectives.
Able to interact effectively with a diverse population at all levels, facilitate decision making and conflict resolution, maintain a positive and constructive demeanor treating all applicants, staff, students, and faculty with professionalism, courtesy and respect.
