    DESCRIPTION

    University of California, Irvine
    School of Education
Postdoctoral Scholar for the Creating Opportunities for Disadvantaged Children Cluster

One full-time postdoctoral scholar is needed at the University of California, Irvine to support the UCI-Creating Opportunities Cluster. The cluster brings together faculty in research areas that are critical to the needs of the university and nation. We have recruited faculty in education, psychology, cognitive science, sociology, and related disciplines who are working together to address a significant societal challenge: Creating opportunity for children living in poverty through effective educational interventions. A critical aspect of making a difference for disadvantaged children is conducting and facilitating research through close partnerships with districts, schools, educational leaders, teachers, parents, and students. We seek an individual for this position who is dedicated to fostering and maintaining research-based school partnerships, conducting rigorous research in collaboration with the Creating Opportunities faculty, and who is familiar with school- and district-based educational research.

Main duties will include fostering and maintaining research-based school partnerships with the cluster faculty, supporting grant writing, and conducting research in collaboration with cluster faculty, which may include collecting and managing student- and teacher-level data in schools and in the lab, working with secure data, analyzing and coding video observations. Other responsibilities may include running statistical analyses, analyzing log data, and disseminating research findings- writing peer reviewed journal articles, presenting at conferences, and managing the cluster website and blogs. Experience in school-based research projects, data management, and statistical methods is strongly preferred.

Position will begin in Fall 2017 or Winter 2018, with the exact start date contingent on the availability of the applicant. Salary is commensurate with experience, plus health benefits.

    Requirements:

Candidates must possess a Ph.D or an Ed.D. in education, psychology, sociology, public policy, economics, speech-language pathology or quantitative methods, with a focus on learning, language, literacy or mathematics. Many of the children in our studies are bilingual or English Learners. It is preferred that applicants have an emerging record of school-based research in the areas of intervention research, statistical methods, family and school influences, special education, or technology. Also preferred is evidence of participation at all levels on externally funded research projects, particularly conducting and overseeing research in schools and in the field. Leadership experience is also preferred.
