The Department of Music at Princeton University is home to Princeton University Concerts (PUC), one of the nation's preeminent University presenting series that brings professional classical musicians from all over the world to campus. PUC seeks applications for a new part-time position of Graphic Designer, a one-year term job that has the potential to grow into a full-time position.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on a wide range of events, supporting one of the most dynamic concert programs on any college campus that continues to grow in energy and impact each year. The Graphic Designer will prepare and maintain the graphic identity for the concert series, as well as create and deliver event-driven graphic works for events, including brochures, concert programs, print advertisements, and e-mail marketing. This individual will work closely with marketing staff to understand the substantive, interpretive, and informational goals of the series and to identify the ways in which these can be achieved through creative design solutions.

The Graphic Designer will report to the Director of Princeton University Concerts. The office is a fast-paced, event-driven, team-based environment, producing multiple projects that range in scale and complexity and are subject to rigorous timetables. An ability to balance multiple projects simultaneously and to communicate effectively and regularly with members of staff, and a myriad personalities including the Chair of the Department, the Director of the Concerts Series and faculty members, is essential to the position.

  • Design, layout of various marketing pieces including concert programs, event posters, print advertising, brochures, e-mail marketing, and potentially animation.
  • Design, layout of email marketing pieces in Constant Contact
  • Maintain current branding and develop new branding for new programs, including identity for social media
  • Be a part of team to maintain and expand the current website at
  • Plan, oversee, manage, and adhere to production schedules for design, production, printing, and fabrication, and coordinate and balance many design projects including working with diverse vendors.
  • Maintain relationships with various printers and oversee the print process.
  • Brainstorm as a member of the marketing team on new and creative design solutions that will bring the Concert Series and its essential message to life.
  • Maintain relationships with other marketing colleagues on campus and represent the Concert Series at various marketing gatherings.


  • Bachelor's degree;
  • Three to five years of project management experience in graphic design, with progressive responsibilities, preferably in a music or cultural setting;
  • Deep expertise with Adobe Creative Suite, especially InDesign and PhotoShop;
  • An exceptional eye for elegant, sophisticated and dynamic design as established through a track record of compelling graphic design;
  • A passion for detail, including typography, and a clean and modern aesthetic
  • Experience preparing specifications; identifying, selecting, and coordinating with printers, fabricators, and other vendors; production and on-press experience.

The Graphic Designer must have a proven ability to work within a complex institutional environment to meet deadlines, multitask, collaborate, and communicate effectively among diverse project constituents. A positive, flexible, can-do attitude is a must, as is the ability to turn around projects quickly. The ideal candidate will be easy to work with, flexible with changes, be able to turn around projects quickly, and will be open to working with existing graphic branding and to be able to adapt designs to existing branding.

A strong background in music, ideally the facts and knowledge of classical music, is strongly preferred and will be prioritized.
