Professional Research Assistant

Nature of Research:

This is a full-time professional research assistant (PRA) in the Nutrition Core of the Colorado Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CCTSI). The CCTSI provides research and training infrastructure as well as core technology resources designed to enhance clinical and basic sciences, promote research excellence, and train the next generation of clinical/translational scientists.

This position reports to the CCTSI Nutrition Research Director, and is responsible for providingexpert nutritional advice, support, and data collection for investigators with a variety of clinical research protocols.

Examples of Work Performed:
  • Calculation of protocol- and subject-specific diets which meet all study targets (ProNutra software)
  • Conduct dietary intake measurements via 24h food recall, food frequency questionnaires, and diet diaries, including subject instruction
  • Analyze nutrient intake data using NDS-R
  • Develop and implement study-specific educational materials
  • Maintain and update food inventory databases
  • Metabolic diet weighing and production
  • Review and implementation of new CTRC clinical research protocols
  • Patient data collection visits, including anthropometry
  • Conduct indirect calorimetry
  • Act as an interface between the Nutritionists, kitchen staff, and investigators/study PRA's
  • Subject and Core scheduling
  • Nutrition Core administrative tasks
  • Review of relevant literature and performance of literature searches
  • Assist with supervision of nutrition interns
  • Preparation of diet analysis reports for investigators
  • Assist in the design and implementation of Nutrition Core protocols
  • Involvement in and presentations for Nutrition Research journal club
  • Other tasks as directed by the CCTSI Nutrition Research Director



Qualifications


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Proficiency in all Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Superior communication and organizational skills
  • Must be able to work independently following training

Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry, Nutrition, or related field
  • Proficiency in all Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Superior communication and organizational skills
  • Must be able to work independently following training
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 20lbs
  • Must be able walk across campus multiple times per day

Desired Qualifications:

Research experience, ability to interpret scientific literature; Pediatric training/experience; kitchen experience; bilingual preferred; RD preferred
