The Acquisitions Editor will be expected to acquire and transmit 15-20 high-quality trade and scholarly manuscripts annually for publication for regional and national audiences and to put an additional 15-20 books per year under contract. Responsibilities will include collaborating with authors, series editors, faculty, librarians, agents, and others to evaluate and commission projects for the Press; attending select conferences and additional regional travel to scout new projects; managing peer review and presenting proposed books to the University Press editorial boards; preparing financial information on all prospective titles and negotiating relevant contracts; coordinating and participating in staff meetings around the publication process; seeking title funding and collaborating with press development staff to seek underwriting as needed; and working with authors on revisions and preparing final manuscripts for copyediting.

Physical Requirements

Sitting for long periods; lifting up to 30 pound book and materials boxes; repetitive motion tasks. Occasional job-related travel.


Monday - Friday; 8:00 am - 5:00 pm


Microsoft Word, Adobe Acrobat Pro, and Microsoft Excel required. Filemaker Pro and working knowledge of Adobe InDesign preferred. Microsoft Access.
