Position Summary

Representing the Office of K-12 Outreach in the College of Education, this position will be responsible for providing administrative and office management support for the Assistant Dean (Director); specific job duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: interacting with students, faculty, staff administrators, executives, and the public in order to represent K-12 Outreach programs; providing administrative support for the Director and senior office personnel; maintaining and reconciling bookkeeping records to assist with budget planning and forecasting; maintaining electronic appointment calendars; assisting in the preparation of reports and presentations; interpreting University policy and administrative procedures in response to inquiries; composing correspondence; prioritizing and responding to inquiries; assisting with event planning; searching the web and summarizing information to keep the Director informed of pertinent events and information concerning programs, meetings, and travel directions; providing graphic design and website support in composing, reviewing, and editing content for promotional pieces or reports in compliance with the ADA and MSU brand standards using the Adobe Creative Suite and various Microsoft Office programs; other duties as assigned to carry out the mission of the Office of K-12 Outreach, the College of Education, and Michigan State University.

Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills

Knowledge normally acquired through a high school education; five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience providing administrative and office management support including scheduling, coordinating, and maintaining calendars; experience maintaining and reconciling records to assist budget planning; experience with word processing, spreadsheet, database, calendaring, and presentation software; experience in composing and editing correspondence; or an equivalent combination of education and experience; possession of a valid vehicle operator's license. 

Desired Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field; strong oral and written communication skills; demonstrated proficiency in graphic design and production, including expertise using the Adobe Creative Suite; proficient knowledge of grammar and appropriate editing techniques for proofreading; ability to multi-task and follow through on responsibilities to meet deadlines; ability to work successfully with faculty, academic scholars, staff, graduate students, and the public; strong project management skills; proficient in the use of both MAC and PC operating platforms, including Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint; demonstrates a work orientation that includes problem solving, seeing the bigger picture, forecasting potential trouble spots, taking initiative, the ability to work as part of a team and independently, and a dedication to continuous self-improvement.
