Accounting Clerk II

Position Summary

Within the Student Billing & Receivables area in the Office of the Controller, the primary responsibilities of the position include the following: Answers telephone and email inquiries regarding student accounts using Student Information System (SIS); interprets and explains University policies and procedures; researches and corrects billing and account errors; engages in problem solving with students, parents, and other University personnel.  Collects on overdue student accounts which include examining each account breakdown for accuracy; attempting to make contact on overdue accounts via collection letters, phone calls, and email.  Establishes payment plan agreements, monitors accounts for payments and mails late notices monthly.  Prepares default accounts for transfer to Delinquent Receivables; prepares monthly collection reports; assists other student account offices as needed.

Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills

Knowledge normally acquired through a high school education; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in accounting, bookkeeping procedures and use of word processing software; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Strong oral and written communication skills; prior customer service experience; demonstrated work orientation that includes excellent customer service skills, positive attitude, high attention to details, problem solving, taking initiative, ability to work with multiple units, as a team as well as independently, and a commitment to continuous learning; knowledge of Student Information System (SIS) and student account reconciliation; knowledge of University policies and procedures; experience in data entry/retrieval; ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment under deadlines; ability to maintain professionalism with a demanding clientele; and knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Microsoft Word and Excel).
