Position Information

BASIC FUNCTION:      

The Assistant Vice President (AVP) provides visionary leadership, direction and coordination for all aspects of enrollment management, including the Offices of Admissions, Records, and Student Financial Services. The Assistant Vice President is responsible for the development, assessment and utilization of historical and trend data for the enhancement of student enrollment operations.

The Assistant Vice President also leads development, implementation, and achievement of strategic student recruitment, retention, and graduation goals of the University.  The Assistant Vice President works collaboratively with Deans and Directors and other University officials to ensure that departmental processes are accurate, timely, and in compliance with federal and university policies and regulations, while maintaining the highest level of service to students and the campus community.

The Assistant Vice President for Enrollment Management reports to the Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of the University.

SUPERVISORY ACCOUNTABILITY:   

Has overall responsibility for providing direction and guidance in the areas of Enrollment Management.  Plans, assigns, and evaluates the work of subordinates for effective operation and results and is responsible for making recommendations in the areas of compensation, staff selection, disciplinary action, complaints, staff performance appraisal, and similar supervisory duties.

NATURE AND SCOPE:             

Internal contacts include deans and directors of the colleges/schools, other administrators, faculty, students and staff of the University.  External contacts include vendors, visitors and government agencies, parents, secondary school personnel and university staff.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:     

Provide leadership and staffing for the enrollment management process in conjunction with the Office of the Provost; oversees the preparation and approval of a long-term strategic plan and an annual enrollment management plan.

Oversee the development and implementation of a sound budget to enhance the functioning of the division.

Oversee the administrative process for international student Visa and subsequent enrollment activities University wide.

Provide division leadership and the securing of essential short-term and long term resources, including fiscal, human and intellectual ideas and programmatic resources so that all departments within the division can effectively and efficiently provide high quality enrollment management services.

Provide the leadership and supervision necessary for on-going development of existing programs and incorporation of new programs to support the University’s enrollment goals.

Provide leadership and supervision of staff members, including recruitment and selection of new staff and on-going evaluation; oversees establishment of professional development goals for staff members, and provides motivation for continued professional growth.

Provide leadership and supervision of all recruitment and admission programs, using data to identify potential students and to develop a comprehensive plan to attract and enroll students; an integrated communication/marketing strategy in support of this plan; and on-going monitoring activities to evaluate, both formatively and summative, the success of the plan.

Provide leadership and supervision in all student enrollment data and student informational areas, and ensures the security, integrity, and maintenance of student records.

Provide leadership and supervision of all aspects of student financial services and financial aid, including student records and accurate reporting, and strictly adheres to all rules governing awarding of financial aid and scholarships.

Maintain currency in enrollment management and higher education through a personal program of professional development including attendance at conferences, workshops and seminars.

Maintain effective communication within Enrollment Management and with all other areas on campus; promotes good public relations and serves as a liaison with the communities served by the University and with other institutions, organizations, and agencies which interact with the University.

Fulfill responsibilities for various other duties within the scope of his/her education and experiential qualifications and capabilities, as assigned by the Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer.

CORE COMPETENCIES:          

Strong background in enrollment management, in the higher education segment with management and supervisory experience and knowledge of theories and practices common to Research Level I institutions.

Should have strong analytical and technical skills, and familiarity with standard computer applications for student affairs, database management and statistical analysis (Banner).  As well as standard office personal computer applications (i.e. Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook, etc.).

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to interact with diverse groups of constituents.

Excellent planning, organizational, and management skills with demonstrated collaboration and team leadership.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: 

A master’s degree with a minimum of ten years of progressively responsible enrollment management experience is required.  A doctoral degree is preferred.

The Assistant Vice President for Enrollment Management must have significant and broad administrative experience in higher education, and extensive knowledge of information technology that is required to strategically manage student information, admissions, registration and records, and the administration of financial aid.

Required also is evidence of exceptional planning, organizational, communications, and team building skills.  The applicant must have excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills, and a commitment to developing collaborative relationships.
