Research Associate - Professional Development and Digital Learning Initiatives

Primary Function of Organization Unit: The mission of the Friday Institute is to advance education through innovation in teaching, learning, and leadership. Bringing together educational professionals, researchers, policy-makers, and other community members, the Friday Institute is a center for fostering collaborations to improve education. We conduct research, develop educational resources, provide professional development programs for educators, advocate to improve teaching and learning, and help inform policy-making.

Essential Job Duties: The Research Associate will participate as a member of the research and development team for the Friday Institute's professional development and digital learning initiatives. The major current focus involves a new initiative developing, implementing, and researching Massive Open Online Courses for Educators (MOOC-Eds;see www.mooc-ed.org). The responsibilities of the Research Associate will be multifaceted, reflecting the different work required across the planning, development, implementation, analysis and dissemination phases of the work. Responsibilities will include, but not be limited to: -Participate in the research-based design of online and blended professional development programs for K-12 educators. -Assist in the facilitation of MOOC-Eds. -Conduct reviews of relevant research. -Contribute to research planning, data collection and data analysis. -Contribute to the development of proposals to potential funders. -Contribute to writing research articles, chapters, presentations and blogs based upon the research and development work. -Coordinate and communicate with funders, partners, participants, consultants, project staff and others involved in the work.

Minimum Education/Experience: -Bachelor's degree in education or a related field; master's degree preferred. -At least 3 years of experience in education as a teacher, curriculum developer, instructional designer, and/or researcher.

Department Required Skills: -Knowledge of the use of technology in K-12 education. -Excellent writing, editing, organizational and communication skills. -Willingness to take initiative and ability to work with a team toward a common goal.

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education: -Master's degree in education or a related field. -Experience in professional development, online teaching, and/or online instructional design. -Experience in virtual or blended teaching and learning in K-12 education. -Familiarity with the Common Core State Standards for K-12 education. -Fluent in the use of productivity and social networking tools.
