ASSISTANT MUSEUM COLLECTIONS
Duties: Under the supervision of the Senior Registrar, the Inventory Technician will work closely with the Inventory Committee and Curatorial Sections to facilitate all aspects of the Museum's Collections Inventory Project. Duties include, but are not limited to, prepping the storeroom for inventory (listing new locations and marking special issues), undertaking inventory work (checking and updating object and object locations, verifying the object count, re-bagging, flagging established six types of problems), updating locations to the new standards and implement them consistently, producing new location labels, reporting progress weekly, generating a final inventory report for each storeroom (in EMu, Word, and Excel documents) and maintaining the documents on Inventory Guidelines; assisting with object cataloguing and movement, resolving straightforward object problems, reorganizing storerooms, and maintaining inventory supplies. This is a one-year, term-funded position with renewal subject to Museum needs and funding availability.
Qualifications: Minimum: BA/BS required, with an MA/MS in a field related to the Museum's holdings and/or an MA in Museum Studies (Collections Management) preferred, 0-1 years experience required, or equivalent combination of education and work experience; knowledge of archaeological and ethnographic materials required. Computer literacy required. Experience with collections management databases (e.g. EMu) preferred. Good photographic skills preferred. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail/instructions and reliable attendance required. Ability to multi-task required. Art handling experience preferred. Manual dexterity required. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs required.
