Degree and Area of Specialization:

Candidates must have a Master's Degree from an ALA-accredited library school.

Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:

Required: At least 3 years of experience working with children's and young adult literature in a library setting or other professional context; demonstrated commitment to diversity; understanding of cultural and social issues related to diversity; knowledge of contemporary children's and young adult literature; passion for contemporary children's and young adult literature and related issues; willingness and ability to read widely outside of work in order to regularly offer assessments of new books for children and teens; demonstrated oral and written communication skills; confidence speaking to groups of adults (teachers and librarians); strong administrative and organizational skills; demonstrated ability to succeed in a collaborative work environment; ability to work independently and to meet deadlines; and ability to travel.

Desired: Project management experience; experience with Word, Excel, Access, and database management; knowledge of and interest in evaluation issues related to multicultural literature and intellectual freedom issues affecting schools and libraries; grant writing experience; experience providing reference in a library setting.

Position Summary:

The non-circulating children's and young adult literature library serves students and faculty on the UW-Madison campus and librarians and teachers across Wisconsin. This mid-level professional position is in a highly collaborative work environment with a specialized focus on diversity in children's and young adult literature, and general book evaluation and outreach related to children's and young adult literature. This position will primarily focus on supporting the CCBC's work compiling annual diversity statistics.

Additional Information:

Appointment: 60%
Note: This position is currently funded for 60%. We hope to increase the appointment to 100% if additional funds can be obtained.
