Under the direction of the Chief Procurement Officer, the Associate Director assists in performing functions related to planning, organizing and directing of the day to day operations of the Purchasing Division with annual expenditures exceeding $600 million dollars. The Associate Director is responsible for the oversight of professional and support staff in overseeing complex purchasing transactions involving competitive solicitations and negotiations. In addition, the position requires decision making toward carrying out division objectives, administering University policies and procedures and interpreting prevailing purchasing laws and regulations. Evaluates current practices and procedures and implements plans for improving efficiencies in the procurement process.

Physical Requirements

The essential job functions of this position require you to sit for extended periods of time: attend meetings in various buildings across campus; maintain high levels of concentration and mental attention; communicate effectively through verbal mediums, work extensively on computers; limited lifting of objects.


Monday - Friday 8:00am - 5:00pm. As an exempt position, additional time as needed to accomplish work goals and meet deadlines.


A Bachelor's Degree with a minimum of seven years of purchasing/business management experience in procurement of goods and services and contract management. Demonstrated leadership skills in a complex environment. Ability to establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with internal and external contacts. Creative, innovative and resourceful problem solving abilities within a team environment. Ability to meet organization/division goals and objectives in a dynamic/expanding climate. Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, well organized, detail oriented, and the ability to motivate others. Strong computer skills are also a priority.
