FNP Clinical-Academic Network for Developing Leaders (CANDL) Urban, School of Nursing  Requisition # 170000014K 

 

As a participant in the HRSA CANDL grant, the Family Nurse Practitioner work with FNP students to integrate academic and clinical training with increased experiential learning opportunities focused on prevention, clinical intervention, and treatment of underserved clients in urban settings. This person will work as a clinician, educator, and coach for both students and preceptors.  This position reports to the Project Director (PD).  Responsibilities include:

  • Orchestrating urban site experiences and oversee the implementation of the clinical immersion model through diverse experiences with population-focused healthcare (pediatrics, maternal health, etc.) within team-based care environments where students, FNPs, physicians, and other care professionals work collaboratively to address patient needs in the urban setting.
  • Supervising precepting experiences through immersive longitudinal clinical traineeships to ensure that FNP students experience diverse scenarios in population-focused healthcare (pediatrics, maternal health, etc.) within team-based care environments in urban settings.
  • Collaborating with the PD and Academic Clinical Integration Coordinator (ACIC) to develop a checklist of student competency milestones that must be achieved and documented before students can progress through the academic-clinical continuum (on-campus simulation to precepted learning to practice-readiness).
  • Collaborating with the PD and the ACIC to establish new academic-clinical partnerships/sites and recruit, train, support, and evaluate preceptors.
  • Assisting with the development of the “safe Out Patient clinic” in readiness to practice preparation of FNP students based on current evidence and best practices.
  • Assisting students in accessing and maintaining documentation of competency achievements in electronic portfolios via the Typhon software.

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Master of Science in Nursing is required. Must have current national certification as an FNP and current, unencumbered licensure as a Registered Nurse and Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in the state of TN. A minimum of one year's experience providing primary care across the lifespan as an FNP is required. Current or recent employment as a FNP in a primary care setting is preferred. Must have the knowledge and experience in providing primary health care and prevention for patients across the lifespan; understanding/knowledge of the preceptor model; ability to support clinical training experiences for FNP students; ability to function independently and with a high level of accountability. Local travel is required. Must have a valid driver's license and provide their own transportation.
