Agricultural Lab Technician

Employment Status: Full time (29-40 Hrs)
The Agriculture Laboratory Technician is responsible for setting up procedures and conditions for conducting standard laboratory tests for agriculture research. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Provide primary assistance for plant science related research and teaching activities at the A-state Farm Complex.
Prepare and maintain facilities used for instructional classes and laboratory activities.
Assist College of Agriculture and Technology faculty with all aspects of plant and soil science related research activities.
Primary farm chores as needed, such as: watering plants, tractor driving, machinery calibration, mowing, harvesting crops, weeding, spraying, and maintaining farm infrastructure.
Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge of laboratory techniques, procedures, and equipment used in agriculture research.
Knowledge of analytical reagents and chemical solutions used in laboratory analysis.
Knowledge of analytical laboratory instruments and equipment operation.
Ability to perform standard and special agriculture laboratory tests.
Ability to prepare test samples.
Ability to operate and provide minor maintenance on laboratory equipment used in analysis.
Monday-Friday 7 a.m.-4 p.m..
Possible weekend duties as needed.
Assist with various small scale construction projects that increase efficiency of the farm. Use of heavy machinery such as tractors, sprayers, and mowers to maintain farm and complete research. Frequent exposure to chemicals, pesticides, and other reagents. Assist with maintenance of all farm structures.
High School Diploma and/or equivalent
One year of specialized training in physical science or related field.
Other job related education and/or experience may be substituted for all or part of these basic requirements, except for certification or licensure requirements, upon approval of the Qualifications Review Committee.
