Duties: Reporting to the Manager for Research Facility and Lab Support Services (RF), assist with oversight of daily operations and services as outlined in support of labs in the Department of Cancer Biology, the Abramson Family Cancer Research Institute and collaborating laboratories in the Biomedical Research Building. Oversee biomedical facility and laboratory conditions, manage and maintain shared research equipment and supervise sterilization processing facility. Develop and implement policies and procedures related to gaining efficiencies as well as training and professional development of staff. Work collaboratively with manager in project management with regard to laboratory relocations, coordination of utilities, placement of resources. Analyze and report on metrics to ensure adherence to budget targets, identify opportunities for cost savings, ensure contract adherence with vendors, etc.. Share 24/7/365 on-call and emergency response responsibilities interchangeably with Manager. Oversee support team members including performance appraisals, assignment of duties, recommending efficiency improvements, etc. Oversee environmental monitoring installation, serving as primary point of contact between vendor and Penn constituents for this University-wide contract supplier; provide training, interface with vendor helpdesk, etc. The position requires proficient analytical and computer skills to identify and resolve diverse problems. Requires strong mechanical and critical thinking abilities to resolve complex issues in a multifaceted scientific environment.

Qualifications: Associate's degree and 3-5 years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience required. Advanced technical training preferred. Supervisory experience preferred. Ability to work independently with little supervision as well as part of a group. Experienced in collaborating and establishing working relationships with senior leadership, faculty and staff in a diverse and dynamic environment. Highly developed management and organizational skills with an ability to prioritize and handle multiple projects simultaneously and independently in a fast-paced environment. Must have exceptional interpersonal, communication (oral and written) skills and be able to exercise confidentiality with professionalism, poise, tact and diplomacy. Advanced mechanical ability and close attention to detail. Proven critical thinking and problem solving skills. Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft applications required. Ability to cover routine 24/7/365 emergency response duties.
