Position Description

Advertised Job Summary

The Accountant/Fiscal Analyst II performs professional duties to assist the Director of Financial Operations by providing budgetary instructions and development and/or explanation of the use of budgetary forms, interprets policies and procedures, and prepares budgetary reports and amendments for review. Analyzes transactions in specific accounts, including operating revenues, operating revenue deductions and other miscellaneous expenditures, determines the propriety of the inclusion of specific charges in each account. Analyzes, prepares and distributes various financial and fiscal reports and statements on accounts for internal and external use. Ensures the accurate documentation of all financial transactions. Applies and supervises the application of the principles of accounting theory to alter and maintain an accounting system, develops methods for recording and monitoring financial transactions and directs the preparation of financial reports.

Minimum Qualifications (Classified and Unclassified positions)

Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field, or equivalent education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Prefer experience with accounts receivable especially in the area of college health and associated insurance programs. Prefer knowledge of the principles, practices and terminology of accounting and financial management. Prefer knowledge of general office practices and procedures. Prefer excellent communication skills, oral and written. Should be able to develop and maintain professional, service-oriented working relationships with patients, physicians, co-workers and supervisors. Prefer knowledge of principles and processes for providing excellent customer and personal services. Prefer excellent communication skills, oral and written. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

Should have ability to apply mathematical concepts proficiently and prioritize and organize work to meet deadlines. Should have ability to analyze data, perform multiple tasks and solve complex financial problems. Should be able to develop and maintain professional, service-oriented working relationships with patients, physicians, co-workers and supervisors. Should be able to work effectively in a patient-centered team environment. Should be able to understand and comply with policies and procedures. Should be able to work independently in the absence of supervisor and willing to learn new systems and implement new processes in response to change or to improve functions within the department. Should adhere to the strictest of confidentiality standards including but not limited to HIPAA, FERPA (etc.). Should be familiar with and able to apply basic accounting principles and critical thinking. Should have working knowledge of medical coding (CPT, ICD-9, and HCPCS coding), insurance filing and medical terminology. Should have experience using medical office software. Should have experience with direct and indirect customer service. Should have working knowledge of general office software applications, such as Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
