Position Description

Advertised Job Summary

The Assistant Director for LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Trans) Education works to support, empower and promote the success of all students through: 1.) educating the campus community on the issues, challenges and concerns of all sexual identities and 2.) developing and implementing programs and initiatives to sustain an inclusive campus community. As a member of the Office of Multicultural Student Affairs team, this person should have strong content knowledge and sensitivity to the concerns of the LGBT community, diversity issues, and a dedication to student growth and development. Support for students includes providing leadership to student initiatives, advising student organizations centered on gender and sexual identities and developing collaborative partnerships with university departments and outside constituent groups.

Minimum Qualifications (Classified and Unclassified positions)

Master's degree in Student Personnel Services, Student Affairs, Higher Education, Social Work, Women and Gender Studies or relevant field and 2 years related experience, additional experience in understanding LGBTQ and gender issues in higher education or bachelor's degree and 4 years related experience.

Preferred Qualifications Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

The successful candidate will have effective interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate and build successful partnerships with campus and community partners.
Knowledge, understanding and sensitivity to the concerns and issues facing LGBT community including the intersections of race, class, gender, sexual orientation and gender identity.
Knowledge of student development theory especially pertaining to sexual orientation.
Strong written and oral communication skills and computer proficiency
Possess strategic planning, management and a commitment to continuous improvement
Ability to keep complete, detailed, and accurate records; ability gather and analyze data and to draw relevant conclusions from the data
Word processing and computer skills
