We are currently seeking a Veterans Affairs Compliance Officer who will advance the institution's proud tradition of excellence in academics, student life and community service.

The Opportunity

Your mission: In this role, you'll ensure that HCC's District Office of Veterans Affairs is in regulatory compliance with the U.S. of Department of Veterans Affairs, U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Regional Processing Office and the Texas Veterans Commission. You'll maintain VA-ONCE, present reports and serve as the custodian of records for compliance audits and reviews for HCC and the federal and state agencies.

Your work: Highlights
You'll serve as a resource for students, faculty, staff and the public regarding veteran-related educational functions, standards, requirements, practices, policies and procedures.
You'll assist with VA audit preparations; analyze data and monitor payments to students; follow up with and resolve tuition payment and discrepancy issues; investigate delays and clarification of payments with the VA; and determine qualification for tuition assistance for qualified veterans.
In order to ensure receipt of benefits for applicable course work as well as compliance with applicable policies, you'll validate students' certified educational plans for accuracy. In addition, you'll manage the process for tuition disbursements and postings on students' accounts, and supervise the Certifying Officials regarding the processing of payments to students and/or the VA.

    Bachelor's Degree in business or accounting or related field from an accredited institution is required.
    Three (3) years of supervisory/management experience required, with at least two (2) years in higher education (Veteran Affairs/STU area preferred).

    One (1) year of experience utilizing VA-Once and PeopleSoft software programs is required.

    One (1) year of experience in accounting and auditing/compliance processes and procedures is required.

    Veteran/Military status is preferred.

    Knowledge and understanding of the operations of an educational institution relative to tuition, registration, and admissions.
    Familiar with appropriate forms and applications needed for applying for various types of educational benefits for VA.
    Ability to interpret, monitor, apply and explain educational benefit related to Veterans Affairs and regulatory compliance with the United States of Department of Veterans Affairs, United States of Veterans Affairs Regional Processing Office and Texas Veterans Commission.
    Ability to work with students from diverse ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds.
    Ability to work a flexible work schedule (some evening and weekend hours may be required).
    Working knowledge in Windows, Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Access), and an electronic management system.
    Able to maintain confidentiality of work related information and materials.
    Effective use of organizational and planning skills with attention to detail and follow through.
