I. JOB OVERVIEW

Job Description Summary:

The Division of Development and Alumni Relations (DAR) is seeking an Associate Director of Development for the George Washington School of Business (GWSB) which reports to Director, Development and Alumni Relations, GWSB. DAR is responsible for leading the university's alumni and fundraising efforts. DAR seeks to promote a culture of philanthropy throughout the university community, including alumni, students, parents, faculty, staff, corporations and foundations, patients and other friends. Our goal is to advance GWUs mission of excellence in education, research, scholarship, and patient care.

Development staff connect the passions of our alumni and supporters with the aspirations of our students and faculty; to provide the resources that ensure GW continues to make history. Alumni Relations staff engages GW's more than 270,000 alumni located around the world and offers tools to connect and network, develops benefits and services, creates programs and events, provides opportunities to volunteer and give, and shares news and information.

The Associate Director of Development (ADoD) will serve as the primary liaison between the GWSB development team and his/her portfolio of alumni, parents and friends of the university. Reporting to the Director of Development, and working in partnership with the Assistant Vice President of Development, this position works alongside the development and school based staff to meet fundraising goals, execute events, and build affinity in support of philanthropic priorities.

This position also works with the GWSB Director of Development and Assistant Vice President of Development to devise and execute a strategy to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward gifts in an assigned portfolio of approximately 150 prospects, both locally (DMV area) and nationally, for major gifts ranging from $50,000 and above in support of GWSB. This position will average 10-12 prospect visits monthly. This will entail collaborating closely with GWSB Office of Development and Alumni Relations as well as the central university development office to increase donor engagement and maximize annual, major, and planned gift potential.

The Director of Development will also assist the Alumni Relations team by supporting events and driving an alumni audience to GWSB related activities with the intention of identifying prospects and cultivating donors, while working closely with GWSB faculty and staff to gain a strong knowledge and understanding of the academic and research programs taking place throughout the school.

This position will also be responsible for data management of their portfolio to ensure accurate prospect tracking of stage progression, contact reports, proposals, philanthropic capacity/inclination and biographical data through our prospect relationship management system (Ellucian Advance). This requires using various reporting tools to monitor prospect data and acting as an active partner with the Research and Relationship Management Team in prospect tracking and data integrity.

This position requires performing other work related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position

Minimum Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 2 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Master's degree or higher in a relevant area of study. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Additional Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications: Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in institutional advancement, familiarity with GWSB Development and Alumni Relations highly desirable, and/or a related field such as communication, marketing, or public relations. Demonstrated leadership and motivational skills.

Two years of relevant development experience (i.e. fundraising, principal gifts, alumni relations, event planning, donor engagement, stewardship, etc.); Excellent verbal and written communication skills; Strong organizational, interpersonal and project management skills; Understanding of higher education and philanthropy; A strong record of collaborating with a team to achieve goals; Tenacity and a can-do spirit. Ability to travel locally and nationally when necessary and to work on occasional evenings and weekends.

This position is required to handle sensitive and confidential information in an appropriate manner. Willingness to make cold calls in order to successfully schedule face to face visits with donor prospects; Able to utilize considerable initiative, independence, and originality to lead projects, guide donor prospects toward philanthropic priorities, and develop new methods and techniques for donor engagement; An understanding of and belief in the mission of GW and School of commitment to institutional goals.
