Duties: The position assists the Manager, Benefits Finance in managing the over $400 million benefits budget for the University. This includes budgeting, paying and booking transactions into various systems, analyzing current items to previous period(s), handling certain accruals, and serving both internal and external clients and colleagues regularly. Performing compliance-related activities, reconciliations and working on special projects are all handled by the Benefits Finance Analyst. This position will interact with Business Administrators, University employees with tax questions, other department personnel needing assistance and other staff regularly.

Responsibilities will include:

Receipt, review, recording, and payment of benefit provider, and service and professional invoices as assigned.

Assist in analysis of workflows and transactions, including timely responses to requests from Comptroller's Office and others for information on variances between EB projections and actual incurred.

Reconcile statistics and data appearing in plan management reports and EB Budget. Assist as appropriate in development of the Employee Benefits Pool Annual budget and the quarterly reconciliation of benefits costs. Provide support as necessary to Executive Director in financial analysis of special projects.

Provide support to the month/ quarter and year-end close to the Comptroller Office and the external auditors.

Assist with the development and implementation of internal controls that assure the effective and efficient stewardship of University assets.

Create ad hoc reports as needed for benefit plan internal and external audits.

Determine appropriate monthly/ annual accruals for various benefit plans, update appropriate supporting schedules and book into the financial system in timely manner.

Assist with the development and implementation of internal controls that help assure the effective, efficient stewardship of University assets.

Assist in training and cross-training other Benefit Team members on financial matters.

Qualifications: A Bachelor's Degree and 3 years to 5 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Knowledge of accounting principles is essential, an ability to understand and willingness to learn benefits is crucial in this role. This position requires an individual who is technically proficient and is detail oriented, while also being able to see the big picture as the position will be called upon the help determine the need for adjustments and accruals based on actual experience each period.
