Job Summary This position is responsible for research activities in the Center for Vaccine Research in a Biosafety Level 3+ (RBL) environment. Incumbent is responsible for the production and characterization of viral stocks. The incumbent will determine the median tissue culture infectious dose (TCIS50) or median egg infectious dose (EID50), the HA/HAI assays using horse, chicken turkey or guinea pig red blood cells; microneutralization titer assays and neuraminidase-inhibition assays; perform the quality assurance and quality control programs (such as sterility testing, mycoplasma-assessment, determination of antiviral resistance and pyrosequencing of mutations); will generate polyclonal antisera against influenza gene products in animal models; be required to work with small laboratory animals and be proficient in animal techniques and protocols; be required to have good communication skills and the ability to work independently and as a fully productive, cooperative team member. Incumbent must maintain a clean and sterile lab environment, designing and implementing experiments, data analysis and keeping detailed records of all procedures. Supervision of rotating students and undergraduate personnel required. Incumbent will perform blood processing, maintain database of samples and ship samples to collaborators upon instruction from PI. This position will require successful completion of Department of Justice Security clearance for work with Select Agents and Toxins, as required by Federal regulation. Minimum Qualifications Master's degree and some experience or equivalent combination of Bachelor's degree plus experience and skills required. Area-specific certification and/or training may be required and other training will be provided as appropriate.
