Adjunct Faculty - Forensic Psychology Department, The Chicago School of Professional Psychology, Ch
The Forensic Psychology Department at The Chicago School is currently seeking qualified adjunct instructors to teach courses in the curriculum for the Fall 2017 semester. Each of the following courses meets at the Chicago campus (on-ground) and follows a 15-week schedule (week of August 28 - December 3, 2017).
Family Systems and Family Treatment
This course introduces students to treatment within the major models of family therapy. Primary theorists, assumptions, and techniques of each family systems model are discussed and students have the opportunity to learn through video examples of various theoretical approaches. This course focuses attention on working with multi-stressed and diverse families.
This course provides an in-depth survey and understanding of the range of mental disorders. The overall objective of the course is to enable students to appropriately diagnose psychopathology for purposes of efficacious treatment and the facilitation of clear clinical dialogue and agreement with fellow professionals. The course emphasizes research as it pertains to empirically-based treatments for a variety of mental health disorders. Additionally, issues of culture and gender as it relates to mental health diagnoses are discussed. Diagnostic criteria are drawn primarily from the DSM-5 with some contribution from other sources considered as appropriate.
Introduction to Forensic Psychology
This course introduces students to the field of forensic psychology, its history, and its impact in today's world. The focus is on the relationship between law and psychology, the mental health system, mental illness and criminal conduct. A brief introduction to the legal system is also included. This course must be taken during the first semester of enrollment
The primary responsibility of adjunct faculty members is to design and implement course instruction and provide evaluation of students. They must also maintain communication with department administration, faculty, and students and meet deadlines.
Adjuncts will be provided master course syllabus with requisite texts, readings, assignments, and weekly topics prior to beginning the teaching assignment. They will also be paired with a core faculty member who will assist them in on-boarding and be available for consultation throughout the semester as to ensure high quality instruction and continuity across sections of the course.
- Doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology or related disciplines;
- Psychology license or be license-eligible;
- Previous in-person, graduate-level teaching experience (preferred);
- Professional experience in area of expertise/course content;
- Commitment to academic and professional excellence, service to the public and/or professional community, scholarship/research, and diversity.
