  Position Information  

This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, permanent (probationary) position. This position is designated non-exempt under FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours for this position are Monday – Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.

Under general direction, and in accordance with schedules or instruction, incumbent performs proficiently a variety of skilled preventive and general maintenance, repair, construction, and renovation work on facilities and systems. Additionally, the incumbent will provide routine preventive maintenance for facilities and systems at SDSU Imperial Valley (Calexico and Brawley).

Expectations – Properly functioning facilities and systems on campus.  Thorough and accurate accounting of time and materials.  Completion of routine work assignments and performance of additional duties as assigned.  Consistent meeting of university needs in a timely and professional manner with increasingly improved skill.  Follow-up on every project or task to insure that all items are completed to the satisfaction of the supervisor/manager.  A responsible attendance record, punctuality and consistent meeting of deadlines.  Performance of work in a manner that supports and facilitates the work of others in Physical Plant and the university community.  A positive and cooperative working relationship with members of the department and campus community.

  Compensation and Benefits  

Starting salary upon appointment not expected to exceed $5,148 per month. CSU Classification Salary Range: $4,903 - $6,265 per month. Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources.

Minimum Qualifications 

Four years of increasingly responsible experience leading to journey-level skills in a mechanical or facilities/building trade, or any equivalent combination of training and experience as a facilities and systems mechanic which demonstrates the achievement of journey-level skills equivalent to that acquired through completion of an applicable apprenticeship program.

Preferred Qualifications and Specialized Skills

  • General knowledge of computer based software (email, MS Office, etc.)

  • Two years of verifiable employment experience performing work in one or more of the following trades: Masonry, Carpentry, Roofing, Locksmith, Mechanical, Electrical or Plumbing, or closely related field; technical school trades certification may substitute for one year of work experience.

  • Experience working in a higher education and/or public sector setting.

  • Bilingual (English and Spanish)
