  Position Information  

This position is in the Management Personnel Plan (Administrator I) and earns management benefits including medical, dental, vision, $100,000 life insurance plan, and the CalPERS pension plan.  For more information on benefits included for this position, please see the benefits summary.

This is a full-time, benefits eligible, at will position. This position is designated exempt under FLSA and not eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. but may vary based on operational needs.

Under the direction of the Senior Associate Athletic Director of Development, the Assistant Athletic Director – Major Gifts will support and enhance the mission of the San Diego State University Athletic Department and the Aztec Club.  The mission of the Aztec Club is to promote the athletics program at SDSU; solicit private contributions as a means to accomplish these purposes; and to sponsor or host activities designed to enhance the athletic department while providing alumni, donors, and fans a vehicle to remain loyal to SDSU Athletics. 

The Assistant Athletic Director – Major Gifts will oversee the process of identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of major gift prospects for identified priorities for the Athletic Department. This position will act on behalf of the Aztec Club in accordance with the department, university, conference and the NCAA regulations.  Act as the primary liaison and care taker of the Aztec Club, its mission, officers, board of directors, and various committees on behalf of the department.  Secure annual and major gifts by researching, identifying, cultivation, and soliciting alumni and friends of the university.

Minimum Qualifications 

  • Bachelor's degree and a minimum of three-four years of fundraising, sales and/or marketing experience.
  • Supervisory experience of full time employees and/ or interns/student workers.

Preferred Qualifications and Specialized Skills

  • Demonstrated success in annual fund/major gift solicitation.
  • Master's degree in a related field.
  • Fund raising software experience (TicketMaster, Paciolan and/ or Advance).
  • Experience in college athletic fundraising, sales and/or marketing.
